Decolonizing Imaginaries is the title of Alvaro's visual research in Visual Arts, as part of masters degree completed in 2023.
This project is a personal interpretation of the coming out moment. In this visual research, the original "Dîner colonial" watercolour created by french painter Jean-Baptiste Débret (1835) was highjacked to become a canvas to a new artistic message. In this composition, a common bourgeois intimacy moment is transformed in a new disruptive reality where the artist's image is central. In this version, the servants from the original image where replaced by a hybrid feminine body with the artists' face on it, with the intention to create a new empowering narrative.
